*For information on Jeff's withdrawl from the leadership race, please continue to the bottom of this webpage.

MOST political ads are written in the third person, leaving one wondering how much the candidate contributed to it him or herself. I will spare you that uncertainty.

My name is JEFF WILLERTON. I am a 45 y/o father of two, a writer, a businessman, an advocate of free speech, one who has not drunk from the Kyoto Kool-Aid and gives short shrift to those who peddle junk science in the name of increasing your tax burden (ie: through carbon taxes). I also seek the leadership of the Wildrose Alliance Party and the premiership of Alberta.

I've worked for three years with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation fighting government waste and inefficiency and am the author of the now three time Canadian bestseller Fix Canada or Lose It, about exposing and deposing the liberal governments that beset us, not the least of which holds office in Edmonton today.

I have run for public office five times. Note that John Diefenbaker also ran five times before winning an election and becoming the Prime Minister of Canada. Like the Chief, I'm nothing if not persistent.

Freedom of speech is the fundamental right in any free society, and I believe yours is threatened by this country's various human rights tribunals. AS PREMIER OF ALBERTA, I WILL CENSURE THE ALBERTA HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION FOR ITS HISTORY OF ABUSES. The present government has rewarded their aggressive behaviour by increasing their budget by 25% this year!

As premier of Alberta I will deliver smaller, more affordable, more democratic and transparent government to the people of this province. Peter Lougheed quadrupled the size of government during his tenure and it remains the largest per capita, most expensive, most secretive government in Canada. Ralph Klein made some necessary and long overdue cut backs in the mid-nineties, but they were significantly misdirected. By giving upper level bureaucrats control of where the cuts took place it was a given they would remain, which in part explains why 51% of our health care costs are consumed by administration today. Administration is necessary and every government needs good bureaucrats, but that's a lot of dead weight. Creating a health "superboard," (their term, not mine) as the Tories have done, without changing the way health care is funded in this province amounts to little more than shuffling the chairs on the Titanic.

A Wildrose Alliance government will end the system of block funding of hospitals (where they are given a lump sum at the beginning of the year) and rather pay health care facilities for services provided, causing those facilities to compete for our health care dollars by offering better services and shorter waiting lists. Other jurisdictions with universal health care plans such as ours are delivering superior services, at lower costs, without waiting lists, and we will emulate their success.

Premier Ed Stelmach with his party-endorsed New Royalty Framework has also effectively chased business from the province. The Wildrose Alliance was the only party to oppose the rejigging of the royalties and the one party that will restore our international reputation as a safe place to do business.

"Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil," wrote Thomas Paine, "in its worst state, an intolerable one." On a scale of one to ten, the Alberta Tories are well into intolerable. We need change, but not simply for its own sake. The Liberals are led by the socialist David Swann; the NDP by Brian Mason, a former member of the Communist Party of Canada. We need to replace the faux conservative Tories, granted, but not with them. We need the Wildrose Alliance.

My objective in running for the leadership of the party is of course to promote better government provincially, but it's more than that. It's also to promote a better federal outcome by keeping the Liberals out of office - and it can be done.

I'm not a separatist, but like most Albertans I am anti-liberal, and frankly  I believe we should go to the polls to reconsider our options in Confederation - each and every time a Liberal government is elected or reelected in Ottawa. We can't tell people how to vote, but if the east insists on having a Liberal government they need to know they might have it all to themselves at the end of the day. Again, my objective is not to break up Canada - it's limited government - which is impossible under a Liberal government.

Would this policy have prevented the NEP had it been in place in 1982? You bet it would have. Will the Liberals ever try something like that again? What was the "Green Shift?" As Stephane Dion's minions in Ontario explained it to their constituents, it was merely a welfare scheme designed to shift more Alberta green their way.

"Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner. Liberty is a well armed sheep contesting the results." What I'm offering you is simply the armour by which to prevent the wolves from taking over again.

When I sign my book, excerpted at www.fixcanada.ca and of which I have sold almost 20,000 copies in this province, my normal salutation is "Toward a better, liberal-free Canada!"  You can help make that goal a reality by clicking on the button below, taking out a membership with the Wildrose Alliance Party and supporting me, Jeff Willerton, in my bid for the leadership of it.

The leadership convention is set for Oct. 17th in Edmonton, but you don't have to be there. Mail in ballots will be provided to all members. Frankly it's never been easier to influence the future of your province - and country. Memberships must be purchased by Oct. 2. Please do not delay.

Your membership, vote and support are obviously vital to the success of this campaign. (Special Offer: Make an online donation of at least $50.00 and you will receive a complimentary, autographed copy of the soon to be released 8th edition of my bestselling book, Fix Canada or Lose It.) You'll also want to forward a link to this website to everyone you know in the province.  Time is of the essence.

Smaller, more affordable, more democratic, transparent government is yours for the asking.  Please do not miss this opportunity to positively influence your political future.

*Jeff called me shortly after midnight Sept. 17th to inform me of his spur-of-the-moment decision. His involvement in the race has not been without great personal sacrafice and represented Jeff's desire to serve his province and country in a very different way. Though his decision is especially difficult for those of us who have offered our time, talents and funding to support him, I am hopeful that the views expressed by Jeff in his book might continue to find a voice in the Wildrose-Alliance Party. Godspeed Jeff in your future endeavors! -A.S.C.
